The housing stock in St. Amant

St. Amant has the highest share of manufactured housing of anywhere we work — about a third of all homes. It also has an unusual amount of construction from the 2010s, and anybody local knows why: a great deal of that is rebuild. We quote manufactured homes and stick-built the same way, and we do not treat one as less of a job than the other.

Storms and water in St. Amant

St. Amant was the hardest-hit community in Ascension Parish in August 2016. Parish officials said most of the flooded homes and businesses were in the St. Amant and Galvez areas, the Laurel Ridge levee was overtopped, and the town ended up in national news during the recovery. The levee has since been completed and the parish has elevated dozens of homes on grant programs. If your house was rebuilt or raised, the roof and gutters went back on at some point too — and the quality of that work varies enormously. We see it every week.

Amite River bottomland: water oak, sweetgum, cypress and live oak. Sweetgum in particular is a gutter problem people underestimate — the balls do not break down and they will block a downspout outright.
